Paulo Branicio was a keynote speaker at the 2019 edition of the International Conference on Plasticity, Damage, and Fracture. He also organized and chaired one of the conference symposia titled “Deformation and Plasticity of Nanoporous and Mechanical Metamaterials”. The conference, with about 350 participants, including keynote and invited speakers, was held at The Westin Playa Bonita, Panama City, Panama, on January 3-9, 2019. The location is close to the Panama Canal, one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, see a picture of it below. The keynote lecture titled “Mechanical properties and failure mechanisms of gradient nanoporous materials” presented novel results on the new area of nanoporous materials introduced in the group and lead by Chang Liu.
